BACKGROUND:

On August 25, 2025, the Department of Sports and Special Events received an application from Brooksee Race Productions to hold the Las Vegas Marathon on October 26, 2025.

This special event is a running competition consisting of three courses, a marathon course (26.2 miles), a half-marathon (13.1 miles) course, and a 7.02-mile course, each with separate starting points.  The finish line for all three courses will be at the Fremont Street Experience on Fremont St. and Las Vegas Blvd.  The event will traverse various streets in unincorporated Clark County and the City of Las Vegas.

The proposed outdoor event anticipates approximately 5200 participants in the competition and over 9,000 spectators in attendance based on the 2024 data.  Road closures are to begin the day prior to the event on October 25, 2025.  The breakdown of the event is scheduled to occur after the event at 2:00 p.m. on October 26, 2025.

Under Clark County Code 2.70.050(E), an applicant for a Special Event Preliminary Approval may be required to appear before the Board for a public hearing under certain conditions.  A public hearing is required for this application because the event will have significant impact on the roadways, will require significant resources from Clark County, and has the potential to cause disorder, disturbances, excessive loitering, nuisances, or other activities which endanger the health or safety of the patrons or disrupt the peace or order of the neighborhood.

Staff recommends that the Board consider whether to approve or deny the application, and if approved, whether any conditions should apply.
