BACKGROUND:
On August 8, 2025, the Clark County Parks and Recreation Department, Public Arts Office received an announcement from the Nevada Division of Tourism promoting the America250 Nevada grant initiative, which offers funding for events, programs, and projects that honor Nevada's heritage and tourism. The Public Arts Office submitted an application and on September 24, 2025, was notified that it had been awarded a grant.
The Public Arts Office was awarded $21,423 from the Nevada Division of Tourism, and it plans to match this amount with Clark County funds for a total of $44,296. The funds will be part of the 2026 Fiscal Year, starting January 1, 2026 and running through June 30, 2026. The Public Arts Office will use these funds to support the American 250 Signal Box Project, which will transform up to 20 utility boxes by July of 2026 across Clark County into dynamic historical landmarks.
Each signal box will feature: a photograph that reflects the historical significance of the site; a timeline contextualizing local events within Clark County, Nevada and national history; and logos of participating partners recognizing the collaborative effort behind this project. By bringing history into public spaces, the project will deepen civic pride, provide inclusive narratives recognizing the contributions from historically underrepresented communities, and welcome both residents and visitors to learn about Clark County's historical heritage.
