BACKGROUND:

On November 5, 2024, the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV approached Clark County Parks and Recreation to establish an Educational Affiliation Agreement (EAA), aimed at providing medical students with the opportunity to engage in community service. This partnership will allow students to gain valuable insights into public health, enhance their communication skills, and strengthen their commitment to serving diverse populations.

Key Points:

* The agreement will facilitate an unpaid internship program where medical students will participate in community-based activities under the supervision of county employees.
* Students will be assigned to various Parks and Recreation centers and will receive guidance from a designated county supervisor.
* In compliance with Clark County’s policies, each student will be processed as a volunteer, including undergoing a fingerprinting and background check prior to the start of their participation.
* Students will sign an acknowledgment form confirming their status as unpaid interns and clarifying that no employment or compensation is involved.
* The program will provide temporary supplemental support to Clark County for short-term projects and programs.
* The term of the agreement is five (5) years from the Effective Date as defined in the Agreement.

The District Attorney's Office has reviewed the Affiliated Agreement and approved form; staff recommends approval.
