Additional Comments: |
Awards from this grant, in partnership with the City of Las Vegas, will be used to implement reusable dishware systems, enhance recycling and battery collection infrastructure across Clark County facilities and events, establish a citywide reusable takeout container program with local restaurants, and expand lithium-ion battery recycling by improving collection infrastructure. |
BACKGROUND:
The Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling grant program, authorized by the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act and funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (Bipartisan Infrastructure Law), allocates $275 million to support recycling infrastructure, with $55 million available annually from Fiscal Years 2022 to 2026. Additionally, EPA received extra funding for program implementation: $2.5 million in FY 2022, $6.5 million in FY 2023, and $5 million in FY 2024. The total estimated funding for the competitive opportunity is approximately $58,000,000. EPA plans to award 20 to 30 assistance agreements, with at least one award per EPA Region. The minimum award is $500,000, and the maximum is $5,000,000 for a 3-year grant period. This funding opportunity aligns with the Biden Administration’s Justice40 Initiative and aims to enhance post-consumer materials management, recycling systems, and waste management infrastructure. EPA will review applications in spring/summer 2025 and announce grants, with projects set to begin in winter 2025.
Due to the complexity of the proposal and the time frame between the grant announcement and submission due date, the grant application was submitted prior to Board approval.
