BACKGROUND:
Rita Asfour (Asfour), a renowned Las Vegas-based visual artist, made a celebrated return to her craft after a period of retirement. Her re-entry into the art world was sparked by her admiration for the iconic showgirls featured in the Bally's Jubilee performance. Inspired by their dazzling costumes and performances, Asfour created a series of striking artworks, which later gained widespread recognition. These works were featured in a documentary exploring the creative process behind her showgirl art and were subsequently showcased in an exhibit at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The donation, generously made by Asfour's daughter, Amber Asfour, is valued at $12,000 and consists of four (4) pieces of artwork created by Asfour, two (2) books, and a calendar showcasing Asfour's work.
The Clark County Museum is dedicated to collecting and preserving the rich history and cultural heritage of Southern Nevada, presenting this history through engaging exhibits and educational programs. Acceptance of this donation will significantly enhance the museum’s collection, providing valuable artifacts that illuminate the region’s artistic and cultural development. The donated materials will be utilized in future exhibits and educational initiatives, allowing the public to deepen their understanding of the growth and evolution of our community through the lens of local art and history.
