BACKGROUND: 

Pursuant to NRS 354.624 (1), each local government must provide for an annual audit of its financial statements. The annual audit must be concluded, and a report submitted to the governing body within five months after the close of the fiscal year being audited, or within the extended time period otherwise granted by the Nevada Department of Taxation.

The opinion and findings of the auditor in the audit report must be presented at a meeting of the governing body not more than 30 days after the report is submitted, and the report must then be immediately filed as a public record with the County Clerk and the State Department of Taxation.
