BACKGROUND:

On October 2, 2019, the Board of County Commissioners created the 1 October Memorial Committee ("Committee"). The Committee was tasked with developing ideas and recommendations from victims' families, survivors and other community members for the creation and implementation of a 1 October Memorial.  Over the last 4 years the Committee has worked diligently to gather information for the creation and implementation of a 1 October Memorial. The Committee has engaged the community and other stakeholders regarding a 1 October Memorial.  The Committee conducted a Request for Proposal for design concepts for a 1 October Memorial and also solicited community input though an online survey. On July 26, 2023, the 1 October Memorial Committee voted to select a winning design concept as well as an alternate design to recommend to the Board of County Commissioners for consideration. Staff wishes to recognize the members of the 1 October Memorial Committee for their years of hard work. The 1 October Memorial Committee's work is now complete, and the Committee is ready to be dissolved.
