BACKGROUND:
In 2021, the Board of County Commissioners established the Office of Traffic Safety with the goal of identifying high-crash corridors, reducing the number of crashes that result in fatalities, serving as the coordinator between key departments and agencies in Clark County, and identifying procedures for implementing proactive and reactive measures.
The Office of Traffic Safety established the School Traffic Safety Working Group with the goal of improving traffic safety in and around schools by analyzing risk, sharing data among regional partners, developing actionable recommendations, and coordinating the phased implementation of safety measures and policies. As the first coordinated regional effort focused specifically on school traffic safety across Southern Nevada, the Working Group united municipalities, school districts, transportation providers, law enforcement, and public health agencies.
The Office of Traffic Safety will provide an overview of the Working Group's Final Report, which summarizes school-related crash trends across the region, documents existing safety efforts, and identifies immediate, short-term, mid-term, and long-term recommendations across education, enforcement, engineering and planning, and policy to address traffic safety issues affecting students traveling to and from school.
