BACKGROUND:

The Moapa Valley Fire Protection District is eligible for grant funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The grant application is characterized as the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response "SAFER" Program and improves or restores local fire departments' staffing and deployment capabilities so they may more effectively respond to emergencies.

If approved, the grant will be used to purchase PPE and provide volunteer stipends.  Additionally, the grant will fund one (1) part time recruitment and retention coordinator to manage volunteers and conduct onboarding and trainings.  The grant will also pay to send volunteers to fire conferences, pay for EMT, AEMT, and paramedic training, pay for tuition and book/labs fees, and provide the funding to hire a marketing contractor.

If awarded, this grant will provide funding to help with recruit and retention of volunteers and provide a higher level of service to the greater Moapa Valley Area.

Staff recommends that the Board ratify the submission of the attached grant application and accept any funds awarded.
