BACKGROUND:

The Board of County Commissioners (Board) previously authorized the use of County snowplow equipment on Yellow Pine Road in the Old Town subdivision on days when school is in session. This request is to expand the use of snowplow equipment to Aspen Road in the Old Town subdivision, and to provide the service as necessary. The snowplowing will be in accordance with the Department of Public Works snowplowing policy that applies to the other three residential subdivisions on Mount Charleston.

Residents of the Old Town subdivision have stated that private contractor snowplowing is not available. Pursuant to NRS 244.273, the Board may authorize snowplowing on private roads if the Board deems it to be in the best interest of the County if:
   (a) The equipment is being used for routine County business in the area where the private roads are located; and
   (b) The use of the equipment does not interfere with the normal operations of the County.

The Department of Public Works is coordinating with owners of the private streets in the Old Town subdivision to convert these streets to public. It is anticipated this will occur prior to the Fall of 2026.
