BACKGROUND:

In 2016, Clark County Department of Public Works made a presentation to the Board of County Commissioners to consider a request to remove the pedestrian bridge over Maryland Parkway near Sunrise Hospital. At the time, the bridge connected transit stops on both the west and east sides of Maryland Parkway, and was used by transit riders. Those transit stops were relocated in August 2024, nearer to the signalized intersections of Desert Inn Road and Sunrise Hospital entrance. The use of the bridge for crossing Maryland Parkway has significantly diminished since the relocation of the transit stops.

The bridge was built in the late 1970s and is nearly fifty years old, in need of major repairs, and has become a nuisance requiring camping cleanups. Due to the needed repairs, access to the bridge was fenced off in early December 2024. There have been no comments or questions received by Clark County Department of Public Works regarding the closure.

Clark County Department of Public Works is requesting approval to remove the bridge since it is no longer necessary and has become a maintenance issue.
