BACKGROUND:

On January 5, 2021, the U.S. Department of the Treasury launched the $25 billion Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) established by the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021. The ERAP assists households that are unable to pay rent and utilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible grantees must use the funds to provide assistance to eligible households through existing or newly created rental assistance programs.

Clark County was awarded $31,717,935.80 under this program to provide assistance to eligible households. An "eligible household" is defined as a renter household that has a household income at or below 80 percent of the area median income. Clark County has an existing rental assistance program - Clark County Housing Assistance Program (CHAP) which will utilize these funds to assist eligible households affected by the pandemic based on the new eligibility requirements.
