Additional Comments: |
No in-kind match is required for this grant |
BACKGROUND:
The Winchester Dondero Cultural Center has a long-standing tradition of presenting diverse world music performances and visual art exhibitions that celebrate a wide range of cultural expressions and foster community engagement. However, many of these important cultural presentations exceed the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center's current budget, limiting its ability to offer them consistently without external funding.
Walking Together: Investing in Folklife in Communities of Color is a national funding program administered by the U.S. Regional Arts Organizations. This initiative supports folklife and traditional arts rooted in communities of color by investing in both the artists and the community-based organizations that sustain them. The program seeks to recognize and uplift traditional practitioners and culture bearers who are preserving and celebrating their communities’ unique heritage. As part of this program, one organization, or collective from each state or U.S. jurisdiction, will be awarded $50,000 in flexible funding to support their continued work in traditional arts and community engagement.
Clark County Parks and Recreation has been invited to apply for this grant opportunity. The Winchester Dondero Cultural Center is currently preparing the application. If awarded, the grant funds will be used to support world music concerts, cultural workshops, and educational outreach programming at the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center.
Due to the tight timeline between the grant announcement and the application deadline, Clark County Parks and Recreation is presenting the blank grant application for the Board to review in advance of its completion and submission. Clark County Parks and Recreations respectfully recommends that the Board authorize the submission of the application for the grant and approve acceptance of funds, if awarded.
