BACKGROUND:

Commissioner McCurdy II has requested an agenda item to present a proclamation to recognize and honor Mari Gonzalez and Koolsville Tattoo.

When children enter foster care, they often arrive with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. A new pair of pajamas and a soft stuffed animal can provide crucial emotional comfort during their initial placement, which can feel scary and overwhelming.  These simple items help children feel safe and cared for during one of the most difficult transitions they'll ever face.

Foster caregivers who welcome children in protective custody into their homes and lives must provide for the daily needs of these children, often without adequate resources.

Mari Gonzalez, owner of Koolsville Tattoo, joined Clark County's Proud Partners of Foster Care business initiative in an unexpected way:  by offering free tattoos to the community in exchange for donations of care and comfort items for children entering foster care.  Mari Gonzalez and the tattoo artists of Koolsville Tattoo exemplify how local businesses can find meaningful ways to support the County's most vulnerable children.
