BACKGROUND:

The Nevada Division of Forestry is currently accepting grant applications for the 2023 Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Program.  The purpose of this funding is to improve rural volunteer fire departments readiness for and response to wildfires, especially in the wildland-urban interface. These departments protect communities with populations of less than 10,000 residents.

The Clark County Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to request funding to purchase under the four priority areas identified in the application:

Priority 1 - Other Supplies (e.g. brass, hose, training materials, etc.)
Priority 2 - New Generation Fire Shelters
Priority 3 - Wildland PPE
Priority 4 - P25 Compliant Radios

The grant applications are due to the Nevada Division of Forestry on July 31, 2023.

Staff recommends the Board to approve and authorize the submission of the 2023 Volunteer Fire Assistance Grants.
