BACKGROUND:

The Swenson Street Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Fiber project is a cooperative effort between Clark County and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), of which NDOT intends to delegate authority to the County to design, advertise and manage construction of the ITS Fiber project for installation of a fiber optic network on Swenson Street between Tropicana Avenue and Sahara Avenue.  The project includes the installation of 72 strand fiber optic cable for the entire length of roadway, connection to existing traffic signal cabinets, upgrading of existing interconnect conduit and pull boxes, and installation of any missing conduits required to accommodate fiber optic cable installation.

On September 17, 2019, the Board of County Commissioners and NDOT entered into Cooperative (local public agency) Highway Agreement No. PR416-19-063 for the subject project.  The agreement also documented the County's 5% match of $157,895 required as part of the total cost ($3,157,895.00) for the project.  NDOT's Transportation Board of Directors approved this cooperative highway agreement on October 14, 2019.

The attached Amendment No. 1 to Cooperative Highway Agreement No. PR416-19-063 extends the term of the agreement to June 30, 2023, allowing the County additional time to complete and close out the construction contract.  The new expiration term will extend the agreement past the current Federal Highway Administration's End date, which was also recently extended to June 30, 2023.

The District Attorney’s Office has reviewed and approved the amended cooperative agreement as to form.
