BACKGROUND: 

NRS 354.5982 authorizes the levy of a total rate of 28 cents on each $100 of assessed valuation in the taxing district comprising the unincorporated areas of Clark County and the City of Las Vegas for the purposes of employing peace officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Of this total rate, 20 cents will expire on June 30, 2027, unless otherwise extended.

The Board of County Commissioners (Board) supports the extension of this assessment to protect LVMPD staffing rates and to continue to provide high quality public safety services to the community.  The attached resolution outlines the Boards' support of legislative efforts to this end. 

Staff recommends that the Board approve, adopt and authorize the Chair to sign the resolution.
