BACKGROUND:

In July 2024, the Clark County (County) District Attorney’s office received notification that the County was named as a beneficiary of art and artifacts as well as a monetary amount of twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) to maintain said collection, in the will of Mr. Richard A. Holmes.  After careful review and consideration, it has been determined that the art does not meet the County Museum’s criteria for accepting donations and it is in the best interest of the County to disclaim the inheritance in order to avoid the costs to store and maintain and ultimately sell the collection.  The Clark County Museum is dedicated to preserving Nevada History.  The museum's collections policy provides that donated artifacts and art must meet specific criteria, which includes the requirement that donated collections be native to Nevada.  The items being donated through the Estate of Richard A. Holmes do not meet this criterion.

However, through the amazing efforts of Clark County Museum Administrator, Amber Colbert, the Estate of Richard A. Holmes is identifying a museum that is more suitable for this collection, thus enabling the art and artifacts to find a home that will highlight and display the art as it deserves to be viewed and enjoyed.
