BACKGROUND:
In accordance with the County Arts Plan of the Clark County Code in section 2.90.030 of title 2, and per the original arts plan language established on 12/4/13 agenda item 49; the Art Committee will consist of seven (7) artists, art professionals and other County residents with art expertise. The committee will evaluate proposed and existing County development projects, select sites for which art will be commissioned, and recommend approaches and budgets for commissioning artworks for each site. Of the seven members, one shall be a faculty member of the UNLV Art Department, one a faculty member of the Art & Art History Program of the Department of Fine Arts at CSN, one a professional architect or landscape architect, one an independent professional artist, and one a staff member of the City of Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs if such individuals are available to serve. Members shall be chosen by the Department of Parks and Recreation and the selections ratified by the BCC.
The Director of Parks and Recreation selected Jeff Fulmer, who is the current Chair of the Art Committee. He will continue to fill the seat of Art & Art History Program of the Department of Fine Arts at CSN. This is his second term which began in October of 2022. In addition to being an artist, Jeff Fulmer is a Coordinator and Adjunct Faculty Member in the Fine Arts Department at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) where he teaches a range of courses and manages the College’s art galleries and permanent collection. Jeff studied sculpture, art theory, graphic design and received his MFA from UNLV in 2000. In 1997 he earned his BA from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana with concentrations in painting and drawing.
Jeff has taught at UNLV, Wabash College, Herron School of Art, and most recently CSN. He has exhibited his paintings and sculptures regionally and nationally. Jeff has completed public art commissions through the City of Las Vegas and through Clark County, Nevada. Jeff earned a Jackpot Grant from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts and a commission from the State of Nevada and Nevada Humanities in 2018.
