BACKGROUND:

As defined in the Cooperative Fire Protection Agreement, Clark County entered into an agreement with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to develop a cost share agreement whenever multiple jurisdictions are affected due to the location of a fire.

On April 28, 2021, the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) agencies responded to a wildfire located at the shooting range in Goodsprings, Nevada. Upon arrival and investigation, it was determined that the fire originated on the shooting range (private land), which is the responsibility of the CCFD. The fire subsequently spread onto the public lands managed by the BLM. The CCFD and BLM established a unified command to manage the incident. The total area burned in this fire incident was 41.7 acres with 17.4 acres being county lands. It was agreed upon between the agencies that Clark County would be responsible for 42 percent of the costs incurred, which is approximately $4,000. The cost share breakdown is based on the ownership of the lands burned.

On May 25, 2021, the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) agencies responded to a second wildfire located at the shooting range in Goodsprings, Nevada. Once again, after arrival and investigation, it was determined that the fire originated on the shooting range (private land), which is the responsibility of the CCFD. The fire subsequently spread onto the public lands managed by the BLM. The CCFD and the BLM established a unified command to manage the incident. The total area burned in this second incident was 26 acres with 11 acres being county lands. It was agreed upon between the agencies that Clark County would be responsible for 42 percent of the costs incurred, which is approximately $4,000.  The cost share breakdown is based on the ownership of the lands burned.

Staff recommends the approval of the aforementioned cost share agreements.
