The County Commission shall fix the minimum compensation at a regular meeting in December for any year immediately preceding a year in which an election of justices of the peace is held. After the County Commission sets minimum compensation, the County Commission may increase or change such compensation during the term but shall not reduce the minimum so established.
Staff recommends that the County Commission approve the minimum compensation to start in January 2027 as follows:

The terms for the Las Vegas Township Departments 11 and 12 will be on the ballot in 2026.
The terms for the Henderson Township Departments 2, 3, and 4 will be on the ballot in 2026.
The term for the North Las Vegas Township Department 3 will be on the ballot in 2026.
The terms for the Justices of the Peace in Boulder City, Bunkerville, Goodsprings, Laughlin, Mesquite, Moapa, Moapa Valley, and Searchlight will not be on the ballot in 2026.
*The Justices of the Peace for Boulder City and Mesquite are recommended to receive the base salary of $79,708 plus an additional $12,000 per annum to hear some juvenile cases. It is recommended that the amount for the juvenile hearings remains at $12,000 for a combined recommended salary of $91,708.
The County Commission at their meeting on July 20, 2010, voted to eliminate longevity pay for the newly elected justices of the peace elected at the November 2, 2020 election and any election or initial appointment thereafter. For justices of the peace first elected prior to November 2, 2020, eligibility for longevity pay will be retained.
