Authorize the grant application submitted to the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child and Family Services for Title IV-B, of the Social Security Act, Subpart II: Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program in the amount of $1,673,751 effective July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024; approve and authorize the continuation of two (2) grant funded limited permanent full time positions: one (1) Family Services Specialist II (C28) and one (1) Family Services Technician (C25) for the period during which the grant funds are available; authorize the Administrator to sign any additional grant documents and accept any funds awarded. BACKGROUND:
On March 24, 2023 The Department of Family Services (DFS) will submit a grant application to the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) for Title IV-B, Subpart II: Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program to continue funding the Safety Decision Making (STDM) program, Medical Wrap Around Services, Family Support and Adoption Promotion and Support.
If awarded, funding will allow for the continuation of the following: (1) STDM and/or other programs designed to ensure the least restrictive placement of DFS youth, including programs to safely reunify families; (2) medical case management and respite services for caregivers so that they can meet the needs of medically fragile children who are in-home or in a stable alternative placement; (3) Family Support providing In Home Counseling Services and other programs designed to stabilize permanency for DFS youth; (4) Pre & Post activities to facilitation of Adoption for DFS youth in need of permanency such as family trainings, recruitment of foster/foster to adopt homes, required administrative tasks; (5) two full time positions: one (1) Family Services Specialist II (C28), and one (1) Family Services Technician (C25); and other various IVB2 eligible activities designed to support the stabilization of DFS youth.
Staff requests the Board to approve the submission of the grant application and accept any funds awarded.
