BACKGROUND:

The Clark County Department of Family Services (DFS) is receiving supplemental American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant funds for the continuation of services and supports to young adults in foster care and former foster youth to support self-sufficiency during pandemic recovery. This will provide a $200 stipend for youth who are meeting education and job requirements of the Life Set and Step-Up Program.

These funds will mitigate the negative financial and socioeconomic impact on Nevada’s youth such as: education disruption, mental health crisis, unstable housing, maintain monthly living expenses (food, utilities, clothing), accessing transportation for employment/appointments, essential household items, etc. to aid in the recovery of the COVID 19 pandemic and ensure their future success.

The award process for this grant differs from the normal grant application process as funding is made available to the State and passed through to DFS as a subrecipient without application submission or competitive process.  The State has made the grant award in accordance with NRS353.263.

Staff requests the Board approve and accept any funds awarded.
