BACKGROUND:

Because the Traffic Division of the Las Vegas Justice Court has been closed many months due to the COVID 19 pandemic, a backlog of 177,000 cases has occurred.  The current staff of the Criminal Division is unable to handle this backlog.  If this Resolution is approved, the District Attorney can ask the Attorney General for assistance in prosecuting the backlog of cases.  If the Attorney General is unable to provide the requested assistance, approval of this Resolution will authorize the Office of Appointed Counsel to appoint a Special Prosecutor to handle these traffic cases.
