BACKGROUND:

Whenever a justice of the peace is disqualified from acting in a case pending in the Justice Court or is unable to perform their official duties because or temporary sickness, absence or other cause, they may appoint a person from a panel of substitute justices of the peace or invite another justice of the peace to act in their place.

Pursuant to previous approval from the Board of county Commissioners, the rate of compensation for a justice of the peace pro tempore is an hourly rate equal to one-half of the hour compensation of the justice of the peace in the Court in which the justice of the peace pro tempore is sitting or $50.00 per day, whichever is greater.

Under NRS 4.032. the Board is empowered to select a number of persons it determines appropriate to compromise a panel of substitute justices of the peace pro tempore. The selected individuals must possess the qualifications set forth in NRS 4.010 for the office of justice of the peace in Clark County.

It is recommended that these additions be adopted on the panel of justices of the peace pro tempore to be in effect until December 31, 2024.
