BACKGROUND:
In accordance with the County Arts Plan of the Clark County Code in section 2.90.030 of title 2, and per the original arts plan language established on 12/4/13 agenda item 49; the Art Committee will consist of seven (7) artists, art professionals and other County residents with art expertise. The committee will evaluate proposed and existing County development projects, select sites for which art will be commissioned, and recommend approaches and budgets for commissioning artworks for each site. Of the seven members, one shall be a faculty member of the UNLV Art Department, one a faculty member of the Art & Art History Program of the Department of Fine Arts at CSN, one a professional architect or landscape architect, one an independent professional artist, and one a staff member of the City of Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs if such individuals are available to serve. Members shall be chosen by the Department of Parks and Recreation and the selections ratified by the BCC.
The recommended appointee is Heather Harmon, will fill the seat of independent professional artist representative. She is replacing Claire Wentzel who resigned in September 2023. This is Ms. Harmon's first term.
Heather Harmon works with artists, arts organizations and museums on leadership, strategy, fundraising, long-term planning and problem solving. Currently she co-Directs the Triple Aught Foundation, who governs and manages Michael Heizer’s City and is charged with its long-term preservation. Previously she served as Director of the Nevada Museum of Art, Las Vegas helping lead the effort to establish an art museum in Southern Nevada. Prior to that post, she served as Director of Development for Artists Space in New York, heading the fundraising effort for the non-profit’s strategic planning and building campaign. From 2008-2013 she worked as director of Regen Projects, Los Angeles before joining the firm KCM Fine Arts to build and manage Art Projects Ibiza and execute large-scale projects for the Lune Rouge Foundation in Ibiza, Spain.
