BACKGROUND:
The Department of Family Services Parenting Project has been in operation since August 1989. Its mission is to provide effective, accessible, community-based prevention services that promote positive changes in the lives of children and families in Clark County. This family-centered, comprehensive prevention program has been funded through a series of grants supplemented with funding from Clark County.
Approval of this item will provide funding for a series of free, evidence-based parent education program in English and Spanish to enhance parent and caregiver knowledge, skills and practices related to the safe, nurturing care of children; and to increase parental confidence of parents and caregiver for those attending and completing the program. Approximately 90 Parenting Project Programs will be available to a minimum of 900 participants. In addition, monies received from the grant will continue to fund twenty-five (25) part-time hourly positions: twenty (20) Facilitation/Mediation Specialists, two (2) Management Assistants, and three (3) Office Assistants.
Due to the short time frame between the grant announcement and submission due date of March 04, 2021, the grant application was submitted to the State prior to Board approval.
Staff requests that the Board ratify the submission of the attached grant application and accept any funds awarded.
