BACKGROUND: 

The Moapa Valley Fire Protection District is eligible for grant funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The grant application is characterized as the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response "SAFER" Program and improves or restores local fire departments' staffing and deployment capabilities so they may more effectively respond to emergencies. The grant does not require any match and does not require a continuation of employment covered by the grant at the end of the performance period under the grant. 

If approved, the grant will be used to pay salary, PERS contributions, medical and life insurance, and all other fringe benefits. 

If awarded, this grant will provide funding to help with providing seven-day paramedic coverage for the Moapa Valley Fire District. 

Staff recommends that the Board ratify the submission of the attached grant application and accept any funds awarded.
