BACKGROUND:
Clark County Redevelopment Agency (RDA) is partnering with University of Nevada, Las Vegas College of Fine Arts to help bring arts and culture to redevelopment areas as the RDA looks to revitalize sections of the urban core.
There will be five pilot projects:
UNLV’s School of Architecture students, mentored by faculty, will present design ideas for the future of Commercial Center and environs, as it evolves into a new Arts District for Las Vegas.
The Performing Arts Series will bring a series of events featuring UNLV’s performing arts disciplines (music, dance, theatre), together with other disciplines, to redevelopment areas for the public to enjoy.
The Department of Film at UNLV (UNLV Film) has a robust documentary film program. The intent is to facilitate and activate class projects that focus on the history of Commercial Center and other related topics, such as documenting the creation of a new arts district at Commercial Center.
Creation of Exhibition Space and Public Art would be anchored by the UNLV Department of Art, with the Entertainment Engineering and Design program and perhaps the School of Architecture also participating in ongoing on-site exhibitions.
Arts Talks Series is a partnership, the organizations will work together to launch and present a series of free-to-the-public panel discussions on topics that are associated with this partnership.
