BACKGROUND:
On July 20, 2021, the Board of County Commissioners approved the ratification of the grant application and acceptance of grant funds from the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) for the Fund to Assist Former Foster Youth (FAFFY) for the purpose of providing aid to youth formerly in foster care who have attained the age of 18 years while in foster care but who have not yet reached 21 years of age.
Services under this program include assisting young adults to attain economic self-sufficiency by providing them with resources and services including but not limited to comprehensive case management, housing assistance, employment assistance, educational assistance, transportation assistance, and other services such as referrals and one-on-one guidance to navigate the transition from foster care into adulthood.
The grant funds allowed for the continuation of six (6) full time limited permanent positions. The Sr. Family Services Specialist position was initially to be 50% funded by this grant and 50% funded through a grant received by the Department of Social Services. However, the inability to hire within the expected timeframe resulted in personnel savings. Additionally, Clark County is covering rent expenses and that led to operating cost savings.
Amendment 1 will revise funding the Sr. Family Services Specialist at 100% starting in May 2025.
Staff request the Board approve the 100% funding of the Sr. Family Services Specialist.
