BACKGROUND: 

Justice of the Peace Melissa A. Saragosa-Stratton tendered her resignation, effective July 1, 2024, creating a vacancy in the Office of the Justice of the Peace, Department 4, Las Vegas Township.  NRS 4.150 provides that when any vacancy occurs in the Office of the Justice of the Peace, the Board of County Commissioners may provide by resolution for an election procedure to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term.  The following procedure is recommended:

First date for candidate filing:
                                          July 22, 2024
Last date for candidate filing:
                                          July 26, 2024
Last date to withdraw candidacy:
                     July 30, 2024
Special Election:
                                                               November 5, 2024

In all other respects, the laws governing filing fees, qualifications for candidacy, manner of conducting the election and other related matters shall be the same as if a regular election were being held for this office.
