BACKGROUND:

The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) has awarded a subgrant to the Clark County Office of the
Coroner/Medical Examiner (CCOCME) for reimbursement of Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC)
funds to support standardized case-level data collection entry and reporting into the CDC web base national
Nevada Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) for jurisdictional counties to include; Clark, Lincoln,
Esmerelda, White Pine, and the southern portion of Nye county for the purpose of identifying risk factors and
developing/implementing strategies aimed at reducing violent deaths.

The subgrant will fund a contractual Grant Consulting Coordinator, Data Collection Specialists and travel for case and record reviews with local and state agencies. Grant employees will assist in agency representation and fonnation of state-level taskforce, the development and continued maintenance ofNVDRS and assist in streamlining software and reporting process that aid in real time analysis and data collection methods between the state, CCOCME and SNHD.

Based upon the previous successes of the CCOCME participation in federal and state grant programs, it is
recommended that the Board approve the ratification of this subgrant from the Southern Nevada Health District
and accept funds awarded on behalf of the CCOCME. This subgrant is now before the Board of County
Commission for ratification given CCOCME is a subgrantee of the Southern Nevada Health District who applied
for the grant.
