BACKGROUND:
Clark County Social Service (CCSS) requests that the Board of County Commissioners approves the allocation of Human Services & Education Sales Tax funding toward the development and implementation of a Critical Home Repair program.
On November 17, 2020, the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) heard discussion on allocations pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 309, Section 8, Subsection (d), and Subsection (e), of the 80th (2019) Legislative Session. A presentation was made pertaining to one or more programs to reduce homelessness; the development or redevelopment of affordable housing; and ensuring the availability or affordability of housing, including, without limitation, any infrastructure or services to support the development or redevelopment of affordable housing. The BCC approved the proposed $38.9 Million Human Services Budget Summary; inclusive of a $23 Million allocation for Homelessness and a $12 Million allocation for Affordable Housing.
The adoption of a Critical Home Repair program would support low-income vulnerable homeowners to remain safely in their homes by providing repairs to systems critical to the survival of these households. Without such services, prospective clients are at risk of losing their homes; a Critical Home Repair program enables low-income and vulnerable homeowners to remain independent and safely age in place in their own homes.
