BACKGROUND: 

Since 1999, the Clark County Department of Juvenile Justice Services (DJJS) has received grant funding from the State of Nevada through its Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child and Family Services, as authorized by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of the Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention program.  Upon approval, DJJS will use grant monies for the following programs:

Funds of $80,000 will be allocated for The Substance Abuse Assessment and Referral Program (SAARP) which assesses non-adjudicated youth presenting with first time drug and/or alcohol related charges.  Once assessed, youth are referred to or provided with programming to address substance abuse and/or mental health needs.

Funds of $50,000 will be allocated for The Motivational Enhancement Therapy/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MET/CBT-5).  MET/CBT-5 treatment program is an innovative short-term approach addressing youth who primarily abuse cannabis.  This program assists youth in the development of skills useful for stopping or reducing drug and alcohol use. 

The Department of Health and Human Services awards DJJS these grant funds without the need for application.
DJJS requests that the Board authorize the acceptance of funds awarded.
