BACKGROUND:
On November 21, 2023, the Board of County Commissioners approved the appointments of thirty-two (32) members to the Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) for FY 2023-2024. Additional appointments were requested, to include: Commissioner Kirkpatrick's Member-at-Large appointee Laura Martin; Paradise Town Advisory Board Representative Kimberly Schwartzlander, with Alternate Angelo Carvalho; and Sunrise Manor Town Advisory Board Representative Sondra Cosgrove, with Alternate Stephanie Jordan. The nominations for the town advisory boards and citizens’ advisory councils of Goodsprings, Indian Springs, and Mountain Springs will be made at future meetings.
The Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) provides a vehicle for citizen participation in the County's U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant programs. CDAC meetings for the County's HOME, HOME ARP, and Emergency Solutions Grant programs will be held from December 2023 through February 2024. The Committee will work with staff in developing project selection priorities, reviewing proposals, holding public hearings, making funding recommendations, and monitoring program implementation.
Committee composition includes: one representative and one alternate from each of the town advisory boards, citizens’ advisory councils; one from the Cities of North Las Vegas, Mesquite, and Boulder City, as well as fourteen at-large individuals representing general community concerns.
Town advisory boards and citizens’ advisory councils have submitted nominees for Commission appointment except for Lower Kyle Canyon, Mt. Charleston, and Sandy Valley which have declined representation. The Cities of North Las Vegas, Boulder City, and Mesquite are authorized to make their own respective appointments who serve in an ex-officio manner. The Cities of Boulder City and Mesquite declined representation. The Commission is responsible for monitoring and appointing the 14 at-large members.
The District Attorney's Office has reviewed and approved this item as to form.
