BACKGROUND:

At the Board of County Commissioner’s meeting on May 18, 2026, the County Finance Department presented a brief report on the current Fiscal Year’s (2026) financial status and the proposed Fiscal Year (2027) General Fund Budget. The Finance Department presented several factors contributing to resource availability and proposed cost containment measures that included limiting supplemental positions to those that support health and safety or are required such as staffing of the new court in Henderson.

County departments were asked to evaluate their need for additional staffing and/or program enhancements. Departments submitted requests and justification for 427 positions at a cost of $50.7 million. The County’s senior management team has reviewed the requests and identified fifteen (15) General Fund positions, thirty-five (35) Non-General Fund positions that are deemed necessary for County operations.
