BACKGROUND:

Clark County Parks and Recreation, Wetlands Park in cooperation with the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) seeks to submit grant application to the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association (NFCA), 2026 NFCA Wildfire Risk Reduction Program. NCFA is a 501(c)(3) organization administering grants funded through the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Nevada Wildland Fire Community Assistance Program. If grant funds are received the Wetlands Park will implement fuel treatments within a 345-acre project boundary based on priorities developed in partnership with BLM & CCFD to reduce fuel loads and fire risk frequency, as well as create additional fire breaks within the wildland urban interface of the Wetlands Park. The project will focus on masticating reed, dead quailbush, brush, and tamarisk, as well as applying herbicide treatments. The project will also allow for expansion of fuel mitigation activities to protect bordering neighborhoods and sensitive wildlife habitats, including threatened and/or endangered species, as well as to enhance and support fire suppression efforts.

Grant award will be announced in March 2026 with project implementation to occur May 2026 - June 2027.

Grant funds are dispersed on a reimbursement basis.
