BACKGROUND:

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) has approved and budgeted funding for the Traffic Safety Program project in RTC's Highway Improvement Acquisition Fund - Fuel Revenue Indexing for Fiscal Year 2022.  Due to the unprecedented rise in roadway fatalities in Clark County, the Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to create the Clark County Office of Traffic Safety in November 2021.  The office is charged with leading the County's efforts on traffic safety coordination by serving as the primary convener and contact for the County between the Board, County departments, other local agencies, and the public to set priorities and implement safety-related initiatives.

The attached Interlocal Contract No. 3034 allocates funds for engineering for this Traffic Safety Program to promote traffic safety within Clark county.  The Clark County Office of Traffic Safety will interact with federal, state, and local government officials, media representatives, traffic safety partners, and the public to gather input, provide information and recommend strategies to improve safety on the roadways through related design, construction and maintenance projects.

RTC approved the interlocal contract at its meeting on June 9, 2022.

The District Attorney's Office has reviewed and approved the interlocal contract as to form.
