BACKGROUND:

On February 13, 2023, the Clark County Parks & Recreation (CCPR) Department received an announcement from the National Parks & Recreation Association (NRPA) promoting current grant opportunities.  The "Out of School Time Youth Mentoring" grant, will provide funding for training and peer networking opportunities to support and assist in the development and implementation of mentoring practices in parks and recreation settings.

If awarded for FY23, we anticipate using $10K; FY24 - $20K; and FY25 - $20K, for a total of $50K over 2.5 years. The CCPR Leaders of the Future/teen program is offered to teens throughout the County at all our centers to participate in Leadership Development activities.  Many youths who have participated in the past have gone on to become both part time and full time employees of the department.  Funds will be used to expand one-on-one and group mentoring programs, implement additional activities focused on improving social, emotional, academic, and behavioral outcomes as well as family engagement and bullying prevention.

The goal of this opportunity is to increase positive behaviors in youth, specifically academic performance, and social-emotional well-being.  Offerings will include, STEAM, youth sports, environmental education, outdoor recreation, arts, cultural activities.
