BACKGROUND:

Roy Shelton, who passed away in 2021, was a long-time Sandy Valley resident and coach of the Sandy Valley High School Sidewinders baseball team.  He not only coached and supported the team, but also groomed and lined the field, provided financial support, and mentored countless players through the years.

Former players and their families have approached Commissioner Jones requesting consideration of naming the Baseball Field at Peace Park in his honor.  On October 13, 2021, the proposal was discussed at the Sandy Valley Citizens Advisory Council meeting.  There was enthusiastic, unanimous support from the audience and the council members.

This item was presented to the County's Long Range Planning Committee on December 14, 2021.
