BACKGROUND:

Clark County Fire Department, at the request of Commissioner Naft, has requested to name the new Clark County Fire Department Training Center after Warren Whitney. The existing training center is located on Assessor's Parcel Number 162-30-103-003 addressed at 4425 Tropicana Avenue, Las Vegas, NV.

Warren Whitney was a Deputy Fire Chief for the Clark County Fire Department for 28 years before he passed away in December 2023 from complications from an illness.  Deputy Fire Chief Whitney joined the CCFD in 1995 and served as a firefighter, engineer, captain and deputy fire chief.  During his time at CCFD he was in charge of the training division and the Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation and was a founding member of the Clark County Honor Guard which provided for those who suffered loss due to fire or other emergencies.

In accordance with the Naming Policy adopted by the Board of County Commissioners, a survey was sent out for naming consideration.

This item was presented to the County's Long Range Planning Committee on June 17, 2024.
