BACKGROUND:
On December 24, 2022 the State of Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) announced notice of funding opportunity for Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Grant. VOCA is the repository for all criminal fines collected at the federal level and uses the funds for grants to agencies that provide services to victims of crime such as services that are provided to children who are victims of child abuse and/or neglect, their siblings, and their non-offending parents/caregivers.
DFS currently provides direct services to child victims and their non-offending caregivers. If awarded, the grant funds will be used to support services to include the continuation of nineteen (19) full time grant funded positions and nine (9) part time grant funded positions to support the Medical Case Management Unit, Child Haven, Placement, and Southern Nevada Children's Assessment Center (SNCAC). In addition, funds will allow for the ability to seek contracted services for: In and Out of Home behavioral/emotional support; advocacy, adoption recruitment; pro-social services/activities; placement disruption prevention services, service barrier removal; program management, direct emergency assistance, operational equipment services and supplies needed for Child Haven and SNCAC.
DFS intend to submit its grant application to the DCFS on the due date of January 27, 2023.
Staff requests that the Board ratify the submission of the grant application and accept the funds awarded.
