BACKGROUND: 

NRS 474.500 allows the Board of Fire Commissioners to appoint a Fire Chief.

On December 5, 2023, Jason Douglas, accepted the position of Fire Chief with the MCFPD. Born and raised in Las Vegas, Jason's father worked for Mount Charleston Fire formally NDF in 1975-76. Chief Douglas has 16 years of service within the Fire Industry. Chief Douglas started his career working in Las Vegas, Nevada BLM then relocating to California to work for the US Forest Service. After that he worked 6 years for Bureau of Land Management as a federal firefighter, with Tahoe Interagency Hotshot Crew, and as a Helicopter/Engine/Hand crew member. Most recently Chief Douglas worked for 2.5 years with Clark County Fire Department and has spent the last 1.5 years with Mt. Charleston Fire Protection District serving as the Assistant Fire Chief. Chief Douglas was the recipient of the Department of Interior Kevin Hall Fire Leadership Award in 2017 and was the Valedictorian of the Clark County Fire Academy 20-01 class. Jason has an Associate degree in Fire Science Technology Management from College of Southern Nevada, and is Fire Officer and Fire Instructor Certified.

Pursuant to NRS 474.500, I am requesting that the Board of Fire Commissioners ratify this appointment.
