BACKGROUND:

In accordance with Title 2, Chapter 2.68 of Clark County Code, the Board of County Commissioners may appoint hearing officers to act on behalf of the board to conduct appeals to the board.

Currently, appointed hearing officers, unless employed by the county, shall be entitled to compensation from the county for services rendered on any given hearing at the rate of one hundred twenty dollars per hour with a maximum chargeable time of ten hours per hearing. In the event that a hearing officer serves more than ten hours, the hearing officer may submit a written statement requesting additional compensation at the rate of one hundred twenty dollars per hour to the board to authorize the additional compensation if the additional hours of service were justified and necessary. Staff is recommending that the board allow the County Manager or designee to authorize the additional compensation for a hearing officer.

Staff requests the ordinance be introduced at the February 3, 2026, Board meeting and a public hearing be set for February 17, 2026.
