BACKGROUND:

On December 6, 2022, Clark County Department of Family Services (DFS) received grant funding from the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) to fund the Child Welfare Integration process and functions in Southern Nevada.

On June 6, 2023, the Board of County Commissioners (BOARD) approved the acceptance of the anticipated grant award in the amount of $1,291,338. On December 12, 2023 DFS was notified by DCFS of additional funding and this item is to request approval of the BOARD to receive the grant funds to be used for adoption related programs required to move children toward the completion of adoption.  In addition, funds will allow for the continuation of two (2) grant funded limited permanent full-time positions: one (1) Office Assistant II (C21) and (1) Social Work Specialist (C29).

The award process for this grant differs from the normal grant application process as funding is made available to the state and passed through to DFS without advance notice, competitive process, or application submission.

Staff request the BOARD approve and authorize the additional grant award and accept the funds awarded.
