BACKGROUND:

On July 21, 2020 the Board of County Commissioners authorized the Department of Family Services to accept a grant award from the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child and Family Services for the John H. Chafee Foster Care Independent  Living Program for the Successful Transition to Adulthood in the amount of $828,836, effective July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.  This Amendment # 1 would allow the Department of Family Services to extend the current grant term through September 30, 2021 and fund a full time Family Services Supervisor (C30).

If approved, the Family Services Supervisor will be dedicated to the supervision and program management for youth receiving Independent Living Services (IL)  ages 14 - 16 to ensure that staff are meeting the state and federally mandated requirements of the IL program.  In addition, due to COVID-19, youth is requiring additional support and guidance as they navigate re-entering school, finding employment, and achieving permanency.
