Programming to improve community engagement for shelter services

BACKGROUND:

The Animal Foundation (TAF) provided the Board of County Commissioners with a plan to improve community engagement for shelter services at the June 20, 2023, meeting.  The Board directed staff to work with The Animal Foundation on an agreement to memorialize the plan.

The following are the pertinent provisions of the Letter of Agreement:
    •
                     TAF will create and operate a Pet Support Call Center and hire additional support staff for admissions,                      transfer partner activities and animal welfare;
    •
                     Clark County will provide funding of 43% of the total cost of the program equaling $230,050;
    •
                     Includes an option to void the agreement if the City of Las Vegas and/or the City of North Las Vegas do                      not agree to fund the remaining value of the total program cost;
    •
                     Goals to improve shelter services include: reduced appointment wait times, reduced owner-surrender                      intakes, and increased number of animals returned to owners;
    •
                     Monthly progress reporting requirements and end-of-program cumulative report;
    •
                     The term of the Agreement is July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024

Staff recommends approval of this Letter of Agreement.
