BACKGROUND:
The Clark County Family Services (CCFS) received notice from the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child and Family Services of its intent to fund the implementation of the Safe Babies Infant/Toddler Court Program in Clark County. The purpose of this program is to implement the research-based Infant-Toddler Court Program (ITCP) teams to change child welfare practices and improve the early developmental health and wellbeing of infants, toddlers, and their families. Additionally, funding will allow for the creation of two (2) Family Services Technicians (C25) positions to:
Monitor the safety, permanency, and well-being of children under the court’s jurisdiction by assessing their needs and the needs of their family.
• Provide social work/case management services to children and families;
• Facilitate referrals for services and maintain contact with those helping agencies and community providers;
• Maintain regular contact with the Safe Babies Court Team (SBCT) Community Coordinator
• Attend monthly SBCT team meetings to discuss needs/strengths/progress of family goals;
• Participate in court hearings to convey the family’s status regarding safety and permanency issues.
The award process for this grant differs from the normal grant application process as funding is available from the State and passed through to CCFS without application or competitive process. In addition, it is not known in advance about any funds availability until an award letter is received from the State.
Staff requests that the Board ratify and approve the acceptance of any funds awarded and approve the grant funded positions.
