BACKGROUND: 

The purpose of this interlocal agreement is for the department to participate in the State's Wildland Fire Protection Program in which the State will assume incident cost consistent with terms of the Master Cooperative Wildland Fire Management and Stafford Act Response Agreement entered into by the parties on September 1, 2020. The interlocal agreement will commence on July 1, 2021 and is effective until June 30, 2023.

The Wildland Fire Protection Program is a State program managed by the Nevada Division of Forestry that provides assistance to public agencies before, during, and after a major wildfire.  This assistance includes fire prevention work including public education and fuel mitigation projects, state resources during a wildfire to include incident command teams, hand crews and aviation resources, and incident billing and application for federal funding.  The program acts as an insurance policy for the County by providing payment for services provided under the agreement during catastrophic wildfires such as the Carpenter 1 Fire in 2013. The Carpenter 1 Fire burned for 14 days and had a final cost of approximately $28 million.  Clark County’s portion of that cost was approximately $900,000.  This program would cover the costs provided under the agreement eliminating most of the financial burden to the County.  This program will cost approximately $8,123 annually for a 2-year period.
