BACKGROUND:

On August 16, 2022 the Board of County Commissioners approved the obligation of $619,714 to the Office of Economic Development, University of Nevada, Las Vegas for the installation of a fiber optic connection for UNLV from Harry Reid Technology Park located at 8100-8398 W Sunset Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89113 to the supercomputer currently stored and operated by UNLV at Switch’s Las Vegas campus.

Upon further review of the project the County has determined the agreement for the installation of the  fiber optic connection should be directly with Switch, Ltd. in the form of a service agreement that would provide Clark County with direct access to the fiber connection as well as the ability to add additional fibers and fiber interconnections at designated splice points.

The estimated cost of the installation of a dedicated two (2) strand fiber optic connection is $750,000 in addition to $75,000 for changes or unexpected costs in connection with the installation.
